I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year
Firstly I would like to welcome Mrs Shannon Howard to West Northam. Mrs Howard is teaching our Year 2/3 class in Room 6 this term and we are delighted to have her on staff.
Next week, on Thursday 20 February, we will be having our Welcome Back Barbecue. There will be a session for parents and carers of Kindergarten, Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2/3 students in Room 4; followed by a session for parents and carers of the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students in the library. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and find out what is happening in your child’s class this year. In addition, the art room will be open during both sessions for parents who wish to look at what the students are doing in art, music and design and technology. Throughout the sessions there will be a FREE sausage sizzle for all families and friends attending, but please note, children MUST be accompanied by an adult.
There is a term calendar inside this newsletter, so please make sure you make a note of any important dates this term:
We have a P&C meeting next Wednesday 19 February at 3:30pm, please come along and see how you can help support the West Northam students, children are welcome;
Room 2 will be hosting the first assembly of the year on Thursday 5 March; and
School Photos will be on Wednesday 11 March. Payment envelopes will be sent home closer to the date.
We will be running swimming trials with Avonvale on Tuesday 24 March to select the students who will represent the AvonWest team at the Interschool Swimming Carnival on 1 April. Only students who have passed Level 5 or above will be eligible for the trials, so if your child has passed Level 5 at Vac Swim over the holidays, could you please send a copy of the certificate to the school before Friday 20 March.
This year, Ms Sharon Smith has very kindly volunteered to take over running the canteen from Monday to Thursday, so we are now able to have the canteen open every day. On Mondays to Thursdays, there will be the $5 lunch deal only, with a choice of either ham and cheese toasted sandwiches or one other meal that will change on a weekly basis. On Fridays it will be the same as last year with pastry for lunch (pies, sausage rolls and pizzas), and snacks at recess.
